A racing seat is one of the most personal purchases in a cockpit. Two seats can look similar in a photograph and feel very different once you sit in them. The Sparco GRID II QRT is worth a closer look if you want a fixed-back seat with a distinctive, configurable pad layout.
What makes the GRID II QRT different?
Sparco describes the GRID II QRT as a fibreglass seat using its QRT construction technology. Its reduced bulk below the shoulders is designed to leave room for upper-body movement. Instead of a single continuous cushion, it uses individual pads secured with hook-and-loop fastenings. This makes the padding arrangement an important part of the seat’s character.
That does not mean one seat fits every driver. Pad positioning can change how a seat feels, but it cannot change the dimensions of the shell. Treat the adjustable pads as a way to refine a suitable fit, rather than a solution for a seat that is fundamentally the wrong size.
Start with fit, then compare features
Before choosing a seat, consider the space available around your hips, thighs and shoulders. If possible, try the seat in a position close to the one you intend to use. A quick sit in an upright display seat tells you less than time spent checking your actual driving position.
- Hip and thigh space: look for a supportive fit without uncomfortable pressure.
- Shoulder position: consider how the seat shape relates to your body and the controls.
- Available space: compare the manufacturer’s dimension drawing with your vehicle or simulator.
- Access: think about how you will get in and out of the finished setup.
Plan the mounting hardware before ordering
The seat is one part of the installation. The mounting brackets, base and any adjustment mechanism must suit the exact seat and the structure it attaches to. Do not assume that hardware from a previous seat will transfer simply because both seats are from the same brand.
Make a list of the parts already in your setup and identify what still needs to be supplied. This is especially useful when replacing a reclining seat with a fixed-back model, because the available adjustment and installation layout may change.
Choose for your intended use
A simulator and a competition vehicle create different purchasing requirements. For a simulator, check the cockpit manufacturer’s mounting guidance and the space around the wheel, pedals and accessories. For competition use, confirm the exact seat’s approval, label, installation requirements and eligibility with the event organiser and a qualified installer before buying. A model name alone is not a complete eligibility check.
Build your shortlist
Start with the GRID II QRT product page, then compare alternatives in the Sparco collection. If your project is a simulator, the Sim Racing Seats collection is another useful starting point. Send us your intended use, cockpit or vehicle details, and existing mounting hardware if you would like help narrowing the options.
